As a specialist plastics engineering and technology packaging business, Petainer has the skills to assist with the design and manufacture of innovative containers that reduce environmental impacts, cut costs and boost sales.
We work closely with our customers – the owners of leading European brands in a variety of consumer product sectors – to understand their markets. We aim to develop a detailed knowledge of the legal, competitive and operational environments in which their packaging must deliver results.
Based on this knowledge and understanding we offer our customers a design service which takes into account the real behaviour of consumers and their interaction with packaging. We draw not just on years of experience but also our own international research into consumer attitudes and purchasing decisions.
We couple this with real innovation in container design – something for which Petainer is developing an international reputation. We constantly renew our links with the ‘next generation’ of designers through our annual design competition for universities and design colleges throughout Europe.
Great container designs, though, need more than simple visual appeal. They must also meet a wide range of technical, economic and environmental requirements – and here, too, Petainer has the expertise and experience to match customers’ demands.
We were among the first companies to supply panel-less containers for hot-filling by food and beverage manufacturers, avoiding the need for vacuum panels to absorb distortion as the container contents cool to room temperature. We work closely with filling machine manufacturers to ensure containers can be filled at the increasing speeds demanded by their customers (who are also our customers). We also work with suppliers of materials and the manufacturers of container-making machines to continually reduce the weight of PET used in containers, helping to drive down costs and environmental impacts.
Petainer is also leading the way in developing new materials and barrier technologies to protect and preserve products in transit, in storage, on retail shelves and in consumers’ homes – extending product life and maintaining quality.
We are applying all our design skills to develop PET containers for new products and markets. For example, we recently launched a new range of PET kegs for beer and other beverages, both to replace traditional metal kegs and to open entirely new markets.
Our design skills are coupled with our skills as a manufacturer of containers with sizes ranging from 200 ml to 40 litres for a wide variety of markets. ‘Design for manufacture’ is therefore central to what we do.
All our work is guided by our commitment to innovating for a sustainable future.
